Five Essential Facebook Applications

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking websites and millions of people use it every day. It’s really fun to experiment with new applications, but some are just more special than the rest!

iLike

One of the greatest things about Facebook is making your profile “your own.” iLike helps you do just that by letting you add your favorite songs and artists to your profile. The iLike window on your profile will show either randomized songs from your list or a list of preselected songs. Nearly all songs feature a thirty second playback and some offer full playback. iLike is a great way to individualize your profile and share your favorite music with your friends.

Flixster Movies

Have you ever wondered if your taste in movies is similar to your friends? This application tells you just that. First, you rate a certain list of movies and then Flixster Movies will compare your ratings to your friends’. Through Flixster Movies, you can also rate and review any movie. You can list upcoming movies as “Want to See” or movies you just can’t stand as “Not Interested.” There are several other features, such as “QuickRate” and “Quizzes,” so be sure to check them out!

Pieces of Flair

Another way to individualize your profile is the Pieces of Flair application. A piece of “Flair” is a button-shaped picture that will usually have a funny or iconic saying written on it. Flair can be sent to friends or added to a “bulletin board” on your profile. While Flair can be used to keep your Facebook profile “your own,” it’s also a way to have some laughs with friends.

MouseHunt

This is a great “Just for Fun” application that you can play with your friends. When you start, you are given a basic mousetrap and cheese to attract mice. Once every hour the application checks your trap. If there is a mouse, you gain points to the next achievement level and money to upgrade your trap and buy cheese. Once every fifteen minutes you can sound the “Hunter’s Horn.” This starts a hunt for you and all of your online friends in the same area (Town, Meadow, Harbor, Mountain, etc). Everyone involved in the hunt may or may not catch a mouse. Game play may seem complicated, but it is actually really fun and is a nice way to take a break now and then.

Extended Info

While the default Personal Info subcategories are great, “Favorite Music” and “Interests” only go so far in telling people who you are. The Extended Info application lets you create your own Personal Info subcategories. Popular categories include, “Things to Do Before I Die,” “Things That Make Me Happy,” and “Nicknames.” Of course, categories are totally customizable and you can add as many categories as you want. This application is a wonderful way to set yourself apart from the mass of users with boring descriptions.
